Bobby Jones joined the Knox County Sheriff’s Office in 1995 after 10 years of service with the City of Knoxville Police Department. Bobby is an ACTAR Accredited Accident Re-constructionist with over 34 years of experience in the field of crash reconstruction. In the early ’80s, Bobby worked with the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

During his time with the U.S. D.O.T. In the mid80’s he investigated well over 2,500 motor vehicle collisions, using the technique of crush-deformation analysis in the majority of these reconstructions. Since then, he has reconstructed thousands of crashes of various types while employing the latest technology, training, and skills along the way. Chief Jones has acted as a technical advisor to local law enforcement agencies in East Tennessee and around the world and has conducted P.O.S.T. (Police Officers Standards and Training) certified classes in accident investigation and reconstruction for law enforcement agencies across the nation.

Bobby has been recognized as an expert regarding motor vehicle accident reconstruction and Forensic Scene Mapping in many State and Federal Courts. He has also been retained by numerous private law firms as well as the insurance industry.

Bobby has also acted as an adjunct instructor and guest lecturer for various institutions, conferences, universities, colleges, and organizations. Speaking about and instructing such topics as Crash Investigation, Crash Reconstruction, Forensic Diagramming, Forensic Animation, and Forensic Scene Mapping to mention a few.

Bobby Jones is a graduate of the US DOT Accident Investigation & Reconstruction School. He has also successfully completed specialized accident investigation and reconstruction courses from the University of North Florida’s Institute of Police Technology and Management, Walters State Community College, and Northwestern University’s Traffic Institute.

Bobby Jones has also attended specialized training conducted by Indiana State University; the Allen Corporation, Washington DC; Dynamic Science Inc., Los Angeles, CA; CALSPAN, Buffalo, NY; and Southwest Research Institute, San Antonio, Texas. Chief Jones is a certified instructor for various Laser Mapping Devices, Total Stations, and FARO 3D Laser Scanners, as well as most of the recognized CAD software programs used for creating diagrams from mapped points such as FARO’s Cad Zone, ARAS and now FARO Zone 3D.
